  4. 2 dc into the ring: Work 2 double crochets into the ring.

  6. 3 dc, ch 1 into the ring: Repeat from * to * two more times.

  7. Join with a slip stitch: Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3 to close the round. (You should have 4 sets of 3 double crochets and 4 chain-1 spaces.)

  9. Join with a slip stitch: Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3 to close the round.

Continue the Pattern:

  • For each additional round, repeat Round 3, adding an extra set of 3 double crochets and chain 1 in each side space as your square grows.

Finishing:

  • Once your granny square reaches the desired size, fasten off and weave in any loose ends using a tapestry needle.

Tips for Success:

  • Color Changes: To add variety, change colors at the beginning of a new round. Simply fasten off the old color and join the new color with a slip stitch in any corner space.

  • Even Tension: Keep your stitches even to ensure your granny square lies flat.

  • Joining Squares: To create larger projects, make multiple granny squares and join them together using slip stitches, whip stitch, or a join-as-you-go method.

The classic granny square is a versatile and fun project that can be used in countless ways. At de Bresla, we’re excited to see what you create with your granny squares! Share your projects with us on social media using the hashtag #GrannySquareCreations.
